Edinburgh

Edinburgh is found in the Central Belt of Scotland and is the capital of the country.  It is known for combining both the modern and ancient world while staying true to its Scottish atmosphere, complete with the Edinburgh castle standing proud over the city.

The capital city is split into many districts, but the two most prominent are the Old Town and New Town which as the name implies separate the city from its medieval roots and modern advances.  Due to their cultural values, they both were added to the World Heritage Site list by UNESCO back in 1995.

Sprinkled in between are plenty of sights, shops, and restaurants to keep every holiday traveller busy.  Additionally, if you plan your holiday correctly, you may want to head there during one of its many famous festivals such as the Hogmanay festival, which is the Scottish New Year and a festival of sounds, fireworks, plays, and street performers as well as overall debauchery that is not to be missed if possible.

Those who want to travel to Edinburgh for one of its many festivals will want to plan ahead, due to the fact that hotel accommodations fill up pretty quickly in August.  However, outside of the New Year festival and the festivals of the Fringe and Tattoo, accommodation is widely available and spread throughout all areas of Edinburgh with stand out hotels including the Rocco Forte Balmoral Hotel, Hotel Missoni, Inverleith Hotel and the Scotsman Hotel.
