If I had to sum up Ischgl in just one word, it would have to be ‘amazing’. With its lively village atmosphere, stunning surroundings and top notch skiing, Ischgl has everything the avid skier could possibly want and more. Without a doubt one of the greatest ski resorts in the Austrian Alps, Ischgl really has to be seen in order to be believed.
Situated up in the Paznaun valley, in the heart of the spectacular Silvretta Mountains, Ischgl’s scenery is as you’d expect, absolutely breathtaking. With its majestic mountain peaks, meandering rivers and secluded snow laden forests, Ischgl is a truly magical place. As well as your ski gear, don’t forget your camera. With so many photo opportunities to be had, you’ll kick yourself if you do.
Less Time Waiting, More Time Skiing
Not only is this astonishing ski resort home to more than 40 hi-tech lifts, but most of them are ultra-fast, like the high-speed eight-man chairs, so less time waiting and more time on the slope! As well as transporting you up and down the mountain in next to no time, many of the lifts are heated too. A much welcomed relief if you’ve landed abruptly on your bottom whilst skiing.
The Best Après Ski
04 Apres Ski by Stefan Heinisch
Ischgl prides itself on having some of the best après ski (socialising after day of skiing) in the Alps. Definitely one for the skier who likes to party, Ischgl has a wide selection of welcoming bars and funky nightclubs as well as special events throughout the ski season. One of the bars here, ‘The Trofan Alms’ has had the honour of being named number 1 après ski bar in the world. Other recommended evening spots include ‘Feuer & Eis’, ‘Down Under’ and ‘Kitzloch’.
Superb Selection of Restaurants
This Austrian gem has a fabulous selection of restaurants to offer. And, with a mixture of delicious themes like Mexican and Italian, there’s something to suit every taste. Eateries in Ischgl include ‘La Bamba’, ‘Grill Alm’ and ‘Salz & Pfeffer’.
A Boatload of Activities
Oh yes, there’s much more to Ischgl than skiing in the day and ‘living it up’ in the evenings. From a 7km toboggan run, ice skating rink to horse drawn sleigh rides and bracing winter walks, there’s an activity for everyone here – perfect if you’re travelling with someone not keen on skiing. Mountain biking is not to be sniffed at either as Ischgl’s Silvretta Mountain Bike Arena is highly acclaimed. It’s a mountain biker’s idea of heaven, that’s for sure. So, if you fancy a day away from the slopes, hop on a bike and explore the miles and miles of enchanting trails.
A place bursting with variety, it’s no wonder so many of us love ski holidays in Ischgl.
